Flats challenge 2013

What is and isn’t working for me in the Flats Challenge? #Flatschallenge

I’m participating in the Flats and Handwashing Challenge hosted by Dirty Diaper Laundry.

Five days into the Flats Challenge and I must admit that the flats are working better than expected.  I’m not even using “real flats”, I bought flour sack towels to use, and have also been using receiving blankets.  As I mentioned in the handwashing post, I don’t really use covers so I’m thrilled that the blankets and towels are working so well.  I have finally mastered the use of the Snappi, so I’m thrilled about that.  I cannot imagine doing this with pins.  Maybe next time I will try Boingo’s and compare how I like the two.

As for the folds that work… I am stuck on the Happy Anteater, which is a modified Origami fold.  I tried the Kite, Jo, Diaper Bag and several others.  I just can’t seem to get a good fit with those.  The Happy Anteater is a trim fold and works well for my skinny bean.  I’ve also used the pad fold and stuffed pockets or laid in covers for when the hubby is watching him.  I wasn’t even going to try and explain the folding and Snappi madness.  I don’t want him to hate cloth diapers LOL.

The big thing that isn’t working is the handwashing.  Honestly, I wouldn’t mind so much if I had bought gloves but I didn’t so my hands are a little rough from wringing out the diapers.  Maybe next year, instead of the plunger, I will do it the real old way.  Washboard and a wringer.  If I can find one.  I would love to have them around anyway.  Especially since they are predicting an active hurricane season.  Then I will really be forced to hand wash… everything.

After five days, what is or isn’t working for you?
