A Cloth Diapering Year in Review

I can’t believe that my Peanut is turning one this week!  How time flies…

At this time last year, I knew he would be coming soon , I just didn’t realize how soon.  He was due June 6 and lo and behold, he showed up on his due date, albeit not his choice.  I’d been having contractions for two weeks so I was ready or so  I thought.  That morning, when I started to leak, I began to have second thoughts about being ready.  My bags were packed, including the small-sized WAHM diapers I had purchased, thinking they would fit.  I knew the BG that I got had no chance of fitting him at first, so I didn’t bother to bring them.  9 1/2 hours late after a cesarean that wasn’t necessary (read about that here), my Peanut was here.

He was a tiny 6 lbs 10 oz angel.  Naturally, none of the diapers fit him.  After two weeks in the NICU, he was only 6 lbs 12 ozs, so nothing fit still… I decided to wait it out.  I didn’t want to buy newborn diapers that he would grow out of quickly.  So after about 2 months, the diapers I bought finally fit, well enough to get by.  I really, really hated the WAHM moms I had and never used them again.    But, I quickly realized I didn’t love any of them and I really couldn’t afford more.

So, I turned to Giving Diapers, Giving Hope.  I was blessed with a huge package of diapers that helped get us through most of the first year, so I was able to build a stash at my own pace.  I made diapers and bought any ones I could that were in my budget from Craigslist.  Plus, I even got a few for reviews.  I have a very random stash.  Mostly one size diapers, because they are the most cost-effective.   I even participated in the Flats and Handwashing challenge, and quickly learned that it’s not for me.  I did get a few sized FuzziBunz Diapers.  I love them.  I am going to be so sad when he out grows these.  I like not having to deal with adjusting the rise and they fit well.  I will be trying the one sized FuzziBunz Cloth Diapers though.

I’ve been able to send back all the diapers to GDGH and send a few others that just never worked for us.  So now my very random stash contains mostly diapers I have made, including hybrid fitteds, pockets and covers.  I have some FuzziBunz, BumGenius, Glow Bug, Imagine, Bumbledoos, Sunbaby and Bottom Bumpers.

I haven’t tried them. They are on my list through. I have noticed that I do like the sized diapers better than OS diapers. They seem to fit him much better. I have a Bottombumpers sized side snapping AIO that I’m really beginning to love. I think the sized are more trim than the OS.
